U.S. Investigates Potential FBI Ties to Capitol Riot

The head of operations for the main American intelligence agency stated that it "likely" was the FBI’s Washington Field Office that took part, and mentioned that it is currently under investigation by U.S. Intelligence agencies.

On Wednesday, the chief of staff for the top U.S. intelligence official stated that they were investigating whether the FBI had played a role in this matter. The insurrection at the Capitol on January 6, 2021 By supporters of President Donald Trump.

Joseph Kent, who serves as the chief of staff for Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, stated during a Senate intelligence committee hearing on his nomination to head the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center that they are currently investigating the matter.

He didn't specify which one of the 18 intelligence organizations is carrying out the investigation.

In December, a watchdog report from the US Justice Department dismissed assertions made by far-right conspiracy theorists. These individuals wrongly alleged that FBI agents were clandestinely implicated in the riots.

The FBI did not grant permission for any informants to access the Capitol.

The report indicated that there were 26 FBI informants present in Washington on the day of the assault. However, according to the report, none of these individuals were authorized by the FBI to access the Capitol building.

Kent's remarks were in reply to inquiries posed by Democratic Senator Mark Kelly.

The queries focused on the assault carried out by followers of the soon-to-be departing President Trump attempting to stop Congress from confirming Joe Biden's win in the presidential election.
