MS Dhoni Crowned Highest Run-Getter for Chennai Super Kings in IPL History, Surpassing Suresh Raina

Chennai (Tamil Nadu), India - On March 29 (ANI): The former captain of Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni On Friday exceeded the previous left-handed batsman Suresh Raina to become the top run-scorer for the team with five championships in the history of the game Indian Premier League ( IPL ).

During the eighth match of the currently running 18th season of the lucrative tournament, the wicketkeeper-batter achieved this feat at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. He scored an undefeated 30 runs off only 16 deliveries, maintaining a remarkable strike rate of 187.5. His performance included three fours and two sixes throughout his explosive inning.

When this hit was made, the 43-year-old player broke past Raina’s record to become the top run-scorer for their team. Presently, Dhoni holds a tally of 4699 runs across his 204 appearances, achieving these with a commendable batting average of 40.50 and a striking rate of 139.43. Meanwhile, prior to retiring from cricket, the left-handed batsman accumulated 4687 runs over the course of 171 matches they participated in for the franchise based in Chennai.

The remaining players on the roster are Faf Du Plessis (2,721 runs in 86 innings), captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (2433 runs from 67 innings) and Ravindra Jadeja (1939 runs from 127 innings). Both Gaikwad and Jadeja continue to play for their respective franchise, but Du Plessis has now taken up the role of vice-captain with the Delhi Capitals this season.

Recapping the IPL In the 2025 confrontation between Super Kings and Rajat Patidar's team, bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Yash Dayal delivered strong performances with their fast bowling, enabling Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to clinch a victory by 50 runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad -lead side at Chepauk Stadium on Friday.

Having secured victories in both matches played so far, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) leads the points standings. This marks RCB’s initial victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at their opponents' home turf, Chepauk Stadium, since 2008. Patidar received the Player of the Match accolade thanks to his outstanding half-century during the first innings. (ANI)
