Animesh Agrawal Shares Insights: His Passion for Indian Game Development and Conversation with PM Narendra Modi
New Delhi [India], April 2 (ANI): India Esports Player Animesh Agrawal Has discussed his encounter and dialogue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the realm of gaming and esports in India. Agrawal feels that this discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi concerning the Indian gaming and esports sector has altered the country's view of the industry.
The e-sports conclave further legitimizes gaming and e-sports in India. With e-sports medal events coming up, Agrawal emphasized the need to take gaming seriously and shape its future in India.
A full year has passed since we first connected, around early April, marking nearly 12 months since meeting him online. Our discussions primarily took place over social media platforms through videos. It was particularly interesting discussing topics related to e-sports and gaming with him. His passion lay heavily in understanding Indian game development trends as well as upcoming titles inspired by local cultures and societal norms. After these exchanges, it became clear that public perception towards gaming and e-sports within the country began shifting positively. This change could also be seen in various initiatives, including regional events like those organized by PEFI in Western India involving officials from sporting ministries and governmental departments. Such support underscores a growing recognition for both sectors here. With competitive gaming poised to feature prominently in forthcoming national medals competitions, there’s an increasing emphasis across India on treating e-sports more formally—a trend exemplified by recent developments. Animesh Agrawal told ANI.
Scheduled for later this year in Riyadh, the event is set to proceed. Esports The World Cup scheduled for 2025 is poised to become the largest esports competition ever recorded. Featuring an unparalleled jackpot alongside top-tier international squads, this championship aims to set new standards. In the previous iteration, more than 1,500 participants representing 200 groups battled for a staggering $60 million (INR 500 crore) reward pot, drawing in around half a billion spectators worldwide—among whom were 10.5 million Indian viewers.
The Esports The World Cup scheduled for 2025 will showcase an array of highly competitive games from various categories. Up until now, twenty-three well-loved titles have been announced, such as Chess, VALORANT, Counter-Strike 2, Honor of Kings, DOTA 2, EAFC 25, League of Legends, PUBG: Battlegrounds, along with numerous others.
Agrawal thinks that India’s esports landscape is still evolving and falls short when it comes to having proficient gamers for different game categories. Although he recognizes some success stories within specific titles, Agrawal admits that winning medals across every event at the Olympic level remains an aspirational target far from reach. Nevertheless, recognizing the periodic inclusion of esports in future Olympics, Agrawal stresses the importance of nurturing new talent immediately. His focus lies on how stakeholders are working diligently towards fostering local gaming skills and boosting India’s visibility in international esports competitions.
I definitely believe it’s becoming increasingly challenging for us. As I’ve consistently mentioned, the Indian esports landscape continues to evolve; however, there remains an ongoing shortage of proficient gamers across various game types. The realm of competitive video games is vast, encompassing numerous titles. While India can claim expertise in certain areas, these successes might only involve one or two specific disciplines. Therefore, when discussing potential medals at international competitions, achieving such feats proves quite daunting. It may seem straightforward to participate, yet securing top spots presents itself as a rather ambitious aspiration. Nonetheless, without immediate action being taken now, the integration of esports into recurring Olympic cycles will likely persist. Consequently, strategic planning aimed toward the future must become our priority. Fortunately, stakeholders within the industry appear committed to fostering homegrown talents capable of elevating the profile of Indian esports both domestically and internationally.
